It became clear what the problem was: the mods had updated, and the game didn't like that. I was told specifically which of our mods were in conflict, and I was provided the option to continue the game regardless.

Then, when we tried to play again, we suddenly could no longer access our campaign. After a few days, things were going smoothly. In the interest of keeping things fresh and trying new things out, we downloaded a few mods. My friend and I have been enjoying Age of Wonders 4 for a few weeks. This is my first Age of Wonders game, so I apologize if this is old news.
